Television commercial production in Dubai serves two distinct markets. The first is broadcast: UAE free-to-air and pay-TV channels, GCC regional broadcast, and pan-Arab satellite platforms. The second is digital: YouTube pre-roll, Meta ads, programmatic display, and connected TV platforms that use broadcast-quality creative. The same production infrastructure serves both, and the most efficient approach is producing broadcast-quality content from the outset that can be repurposed across both channels rather than producing separately for each.

Dubai occupies an unusual position in the GCC advertising market. As the region's media hub, it hosts most of the major regional broadcasting networks and advertising holding companies. This concentration of broadcast infrastructure means that Dubai-based production companies work within a technical and professional ecosystem that matches global broadcast standards.

The TVC Production Process

Creative Development

A TVC brief starts with the message: what the brand wants the viewer to feel, know, or do in 15, 30, or 60 seconds. From the brief, we develop a creative concept — script, visual treatment, tone reference, casting direction, and location approach. We present two to three distinct creative directions before developing the chosen approach into a full production plan. The script and storyboard are both approved before any production expenditure is committed.

Pre-Production

Pre-production for a Dubai TVC covers casting (managed through casting agencies, with auditions and shortlisting), location scouting and permitting (Dubai's permitting landscape for commercial shoots in public areas is well-established but requires advance planning), wardrobe and art direction, equipment scheduling, crew assembly, and production scheduling. Pre-production typically runs one to two weeks and determines the production quality ceiling — the shoot can only deliver what pre-production has set up.

Production

A full-crew TVC shoot in Dubai includes director, DOP, camera operator, gaffer and lighting team, key grip and rigging team, production designer and art director, makeup artist, wardrobe stylist, production manager, production assistant, and talent. For larger productions requiring aerial coverage, we add GCAA-licensed drone operators. Dubai's climate means scheduling shoots to avoid peak midday heat for exterior work — early morning or late afternoon golden hour is standard for outdoor commercial production.

Post-Production

TVC post-production follows a specific pipeline: offline edit (rough cut for client approval), online edit (technical finishing, VFX, graphics), colour grade to a reference that matches the creative vision and brand standards, sound design and music licensing, audio mix to broadcast loudness specifications, and broadcast master preparation to channel specifications. We do not deliver a broadcast TVC until it passes our internal QC checklist covering all technical requirements for the target broadcast platform.

UAE Broadcast Specifications

Different UAE and GCC broadcasters have different technical requirements. Dubai One accepts 1080i/25fps MXF XDCAM HD 422. MBC requires similar specifications with specific caption and subtitle requirements for Arabic content. OSN has ProRes requirements for some deliverables. Abu Dhabi Media channels have their own specifications. We maintain a current database of broadcast specifications for the major UAE and GCC channels and deliver masters to those specs as part of the production package.
